Project Runway's Christian Siriano Designs for Whoopi Goldberg

The 2008 Tony Awards were held last night, and the show's host, Whoopi Goldberg, wore a dress designed by Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano. I must say that I really like Christian's design for Whoopi. When I first learned that Christian would be designing a dress for Whoopi to wear at the Tony's, I was kind of wary. Christian's designs are known for their ruffles and layers, and I didn't know how well that would translate on Whoopi. But I have to admit that I'm impressed with the final product. The dress is signature Christian with its dramatic lines, yet it still manages to be flattering on Whoopi. I like Christian's dress for Whoopi, but do you?

Hot Then Not...Ashanti Looks Good, and Then She Doesn't

When I saw this pic of R&B singer Ashanti ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange yesterday, I knew that I had to comment on how much her style has grown. Ashanti looks great in her one shoulder YSL dress and mary jane pumps. Her hair, makeup, and outfit all came together to create the perfect look that's both sophisticated and flirty.

But just when I was deciding on how much I was loving Ashanti's new and improved style, I saw these additional pics of her performing at the Virgin Record store wearing this completely unflattering all white halter top/shorts combo. I'm not really feeling this look at all. The shorts are a bit too short, the neckline in the top is a bit too low, and the fit of it all just doesn't compliment Ashanti's body-- which is one of her best features. I will say this though, her hair and makeup are flawless. I always like to find the positive, lol. Maybe I'm just being too hard on Ashanti. What do you all think of her latest looks? Are neither of them working for you? Or do you actually love them both?

Check My Footwork...Gwyneth Paltrow Edition

Gwyneth Paltrow's got a new movie coming out (Iron Man), so with that comes lots of promotional events. And with promotional events come Gwyneth dressed in fabulous outfits. If you can take your eyes off of her great ensembles, check out Gwyneth's footwork. Clearly, when it comes to shoes, Miss Paltrow (or Mrs. Martin if you're nasty, lol) likes her heels high and skinny. What better way is there? If you want to get your strut on like Gwyneth, a shoe with both a platform and a stiletto heel will work wonders. The stiletto heel lengthens the leg, while the platform with give you some extra height. Here are a few of my Gwyneth inspired selections below.

Lindsay In Uniform, Day Two

Lindsay Lohan was spotted wearing her favorite outfit again. This time she went with a red sweater and black and red riding boots. You know, tights are comfortable as hell, so I can't really get mad at Lindsay. And hey, if it's not broke, don't fix it, so I wonder how much longer we're gonna see Lindsay wearing this look. I have to say, though, that I'm feeling those boots. The red cuff makes the boot stand out against Lindsay's black tights. And if you really like Lindsay's sweater you can pick it up from American Apparel.

How Not To Wear It....Jennifer's Shirtdress

A few days ago, I featured this fabulous anchor print shirtdress from J. Crew. Now we see actress Jennifer Love Hewitt wearing the same dress, but getting the look all wrong. First off, I don't particularly like the dress' fit on Jennifer. When you're a well endowed Batch! you have to be careful with button ups. They must be loose around the bust but fitted at the waist, or it will create a frumpy silhouette. The same rule applies to shirtdresses. Jennifer's dress fits around the bust, but is too large around the waist, making her look a bit larger than her actual size.

My second problem is with Jennifer's choice of shoe. Because the dress hits right below the knee, it shortens the body. To achieve a lengthening affect, Jennifer should have worn a heel. I know how it is sometimes, and every now and then you just want to wear flats. Jennifer could have just worn a pair of cute flat sandals, or if she still insisted on wearing sneakers, a skimmer would have been better suited for this dress.

Beyonce Shines in Yellow

We all knew that yellow was one of this summer's biggest colors. Beyonce proves that we were correct in our trend forecasting while wearing this cute yellow dress. With a rounded neckline and an empire waist, this dress is extremely versatile. It could be dressed up with jewelry and high heels, but I love how Beyonce's taken the casual route. Her square toe shoes are a great compliment to the dress. We usually see Bey all dolled up, so it's refreshing to see her looking a bit more casual.

Kate Winslet Does It Vintage Style

I know Kate Winslet's look is the result of a great costume department on the set of her new movie, Revolutionary Road, but I can't help but to love this outfit. The movie is set in 1950s Connecticut, and this is definitely a period look, but it's one that I could easily see being worn today. I love the addition of the little white gloves; they're so feminine. With fashion, I believe that the more things change, the more they really stay the same. It says a lot that dress that mimics 1950s fashion looks just as contemporary as anything worn today in 2007.

Rihanna Loves Her Seven Jeans

Clearly Rihanna loves her Seven for All Mankind jeans. We've seen her before in a cute ruffled denim dress by the famous denim brand, and now she's seen sporting their latest, a cute denim romper. Rompers are new on the celebrity scene, having been worn by fashionistas such as Nicole Richie. I haven't really been a fan of the trend, but this particular romper that Rihanna wears is very fashion forward, and I love how she pairs it with a white tank and leather jacket. I'm not sure how I feel about the leather boots Rihanna sports, but overall I think it's a great look. She's definitely taking this good girl gone bad thing seriously, lol.

I've been really impressed with Rihanna lately. From her dress choice at the MET Costume Institute Ball, to her latest video, Rihanna has definitely become an aspiring fashionista. Her wardrobe has been on point lately, and this is the second time I've wanted something from her closet. Rihanna wore this fabulous Matthew Williamson sequined sweater during her hosting duties on MTV's TRL. If I had $800 dollars to spare, I definitely pick it up, lol. Maybe one of you batches has got it like that (go girl!), and can get this bad boy for yourself.

p.s. Can I just say that it's great to be home!

Runway v. Celebway

Paula Patton in Gucci

While both actress Paula Patton, and the Gucci model where this dress well, I think I'll give it to Paula. I like both the looser fit and slightly longer length on Paula's dress. Plus, I think Paula's shoes are a better match with the dress than those of the model.




Jennifer Lopez in Lanvin

First off, only Jennifer Lopez could attempt to pull of a look like this. To wear this dress, you must have just as much style as you have attitude, and Miss Lopez definitely has both. Again I'm gonna go with the celebrity on this one. You'd think that Jennifer's necklace would clash with the neckline of her dress, but surprisingly it works extremely well on her. Ultimately, I think what sets Jennifer apart is the attitude in which she wears this dress.




Lindsay Lohan in Chanel

Here we see Lindsay Lohan wearing two of her favorite things-- Chanel, and her Miu Miu mary janes. This is one pairing in which I think the model wears the look best. While Lindsay's mary janes and black stockings don't look bad, the dress looks much better on the model paired with bare legs and open toe shoes. I also think the model's updo allows the dress to be seen. The sequin detailing on Lindsay's dress is completely lost in her hair.




Mischa Barton in Ralph Lauren

Actress Mischa Barton tends to like dresses like this gold Ralph Lauren frock-- drop waists, and a loose fit. Here, I don't think either the model or Mischa best each other. I guess it just comes down to styling. Does the dress look better with Micha's round toe pumps, or with the model's strappy heels? I think I'll give it to Mischa, but this one is really just too close to call.
