Victoria Beckham and Marc Jacobs, Together Again

victoria-beckham-naked-marc-jacobs-charity

Victoria Beckham is not only posing for Marc Jacobs in his spring ad campaign, she's getting naked for him too. Victoria is posing nude for Marc as a part of his campaign to bring awareness to skin cancer. Of her decision to participate in the campaign, Victoria had this to say:
“Since we moved to California I have realised how important it is to practise safe sun for myself and to keep my three boys’ skin well protected as well. Skin cancer is a huge problem and I really wanted to help raise awareness by taking part in Marc’s initiative.”

Seems charity is big in Hollywood right now. First there was Hayden and her whales, and now there's this. I can't knock the hustle though, sometimes putting a celebrity face behind a cause brings awareness to those who may have otherwise never taken notice. If you'd like to purchase one of Victoria's shirts for Marc Jacobs, they'll be on sale starting next week in all Marc Jacobs stores.

Dig Hayden's Style? Then Shop Her Closet!

Lately, I've been going on, and on about how much I like Hayden Panettiere's style; like how it manages to be both mature and youthful (what a paradox, lol). Well, if you've also been admiring Miss Panettiere's fashion savvy, then here's your chance to shop her actual closet. Hayden's raising funds for her Save the Whales Again campaign by selling actual items from her wardrobe, many that haven't even been worn, at PanettiereCloset.com. Didn't know Hayden was such a humanitarian? There's actually a warrant out for her arrest in Japan, where the Heroes starlet attempted to keep fisherman from hunting dolphins. Hayden's a tiny little thing, and I know I couldn't fit anything out of her closet, lol. But if you still want to help, you can make a donation to the cause. See, not all of Hollywood's pretty young things are self absorbed.

A Dollar A Day Saves A Life...So Say Alicia, Iman, and Zoe

AIDS charity, Keep A Child Alive, is using star power to raise awareness for a special cause. The Good Cents Initiative asks Americans to save their pennies to help save the lives of children. How exactly does the program work? From the Keep A Child Alive website:
"We’re asking companies to add one cent for Keep a Child Alive. Maybe it's on the receipt for a cup of coffee, or a penny added to the price of a cd- it's about really small amounts that quickly add up to make a huge difference. It's designed to have very little cost to companies and a tiny cost to their customers. But it will generate enough money to provide millions of children in Africa and India with lifesaving AIDS medication, support services, and orphan care. Less than a dollar a day keeps a child alive."

Sounds good to me! Who knew that something so simple would make such a huge difference in the lives of so many. The Good Cents Initiative adverts will begin making the rounds in several American publications featuring celebs such as Alicia Keys, Iman, and Zoe Kravtiz. If you'd like to learn more about Keep A Child Alive and the Good Cents Initiative check out their website here.

H&M Presents...Fashion Against AIDS

Sometimes fashion has more of a purpose than simply making us look great. H&M has teamed up with Designers Against AIDS to create a line of t-shirts in collaboration with several celebrities to raise AIDS awareness. Called Fashion Against Aids, the collection will make its debut in H&M stores beginning February 2008. The shirts will be made of 100% certified organic cotton, and each piece carries a tag that reads, “This might be the most important piece of clothing you’ve ever had your hands on.” All celebrity collaborators, including Rihanna, Timbaland, and Good Charlotte, are participating for free, and portions of each purchase will benefit various HIV/AIDS charities around the world. Head on over to H&M in February, and you can do some good while looking good.

Fashion Gives Back...Shopbop.com

I've done a lot of posts lately that relate fashion and charity. Well community service is kind of a big deal to me, if we don't give back to our communities, then who will? Today I've found another way to give back, and all you have to do is what you already do-- Spend Money! Glamour Magazine teamed up with several designers to create exclusive tees for charity. They all cost $68 each, and proceeds from each shirt go to different charities. Head over to Shopbop and give back.

Real Women Wear Red

A few days ago I posted about how Friday, February 2nd was the national Go Red for Women Day, bringing awareness to heart disease in women. Well Friday was also the first day of New York's Fashion Week, and as unlikely as it would seem, the two causes came together with the fifth annual Red Dress Collection fashion show. The show, which was the official launch of Fashion Week, was held in the main tent in Bryant Park. The annual event showcases designer's red dresses-- the symbol for heart disease awareness in women-- modeled by familiar celebrity faces. Those celebrities included Kelly Ripa, Angela Bassett, Betsey Johnson, and Helena Christensen.

Clothing for a Cause

Nancy G. Brinker made a promise to her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever, and it was in 1982 that she fulfilled this promise with the formation of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. 2007 marks the 25th anniversary of the foundation, and to celebrate they've implemented several new initiatives, including a new look and logo.

As part of the new initiative, and in an attempt to bring awareness to younger women, the foundation is selling a new tshirt-- If you're going to stare at my breasts you could at least donate a dollar to save them.-- with all proceeds going to the foundation. Another popular item is are the Susan G. Komen for a Cure promise rings. The rings are sold as a pair to symbolize how the search for a cure links all women. Actor Hugh Laurie was seen sporting one of these at this year's Golden Globes. Breast Cancer is a disease that affects all women, and the search for a cure is a cause close to my heart, so it's nice to know that by doing something as simple as buying a $5 ring, we're helping the cause.

Go Red for Women

Many people don't realize that heart disease is the number one killer of both women and men. But even more people don't realize that heart disease is largely preventable. So in order to spread awareness about heart disease, Friday February 2nd, is the national Go Red for Women Day. You can show your support for women and the fight against heart disease by wearing red-- a red bag, a red blouse, or even put on red lipstick.
