Dear Jennifer Hudson, Leggings Are Not Pants

First off, let me begin with saying that I'm a fan of leggings. When done right, they help add trendiness to an outfit, and can quickly pull a look together. But, I'm not a fan of leggings worn with tops that don't cover the hips. Jennifer Hudson, pictured on her way through an airport, shows us just why leggings worn with a too short top just aren't flattering. Leggings are not pants, so to avoid risk of camel toe and other indecent-ness, lol you've got to pair them tops that at least hit at the top of your thighs. Tights are still a trend that's in season; just be careful when you add them to your wardrobe.

Jennifer Hudson Rocks "The Suri"

One of my favorite posts of 2007 was the 5 must have celebrity haircuts post, and if I do it again in '08, the "Suri" will definitely be on the list. Jennifer Hudson brought in the new year at the Setai Hotel in Miami, Florida sporting this ultra flattering new look. From the great cut, to the all white curve enhancing ensemble, J. Hud's got it going on. This batch is disproving so many stereotypes with this one look. The first one being, that contrary to popular belief, all white can be slimming. She's also showing that yes, curvy girls can wear satin. The key to making both these trends work, is to make sure the clothes fit perfectly. Clearly, Jennifer has the perfect tailor, because her clothes have an impeccable fit. They aren't too tight, but at the same time, aren't too baggy either.

Jennifer Hudson Is Working Those Knee High Boots

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson proves that yes, curvy girls can rock the tights and knee high boots trend, and look good while doing so. Most often, trends can work for almost anyone, it's just a matter of tailoring them to work for you and your body type. You'd think that this particular trend, knee high boots and tights, would only look great on thin women with long legs, but that's not the case. If you're curvy, or short, or both, make sure your tights and boots are the same color. This lengthens the leg by creating one long visual line. Also, note how Jennifer pairs her fitted dress with a waist cinched cape. Because the dress is fitted, it further lengthens the line of the leg all the way to the hip. But the cape allows for some tummy room while still showcasing a waist. Just because you have some curves, doesn't mean you can't try out trends!

Where Desire Leads...Imari Seduction Featuring Jennifer Hudson

jennifer hudson - avon - imari seduction

Remember when Jennifer Hudson signed on to be the new face of Avon? Sure you do, lol. Here are the first ads to come from that partnership. I must say that I like the tone of these ads-- the darkness, the purple, Jennifer's dress. So far it appears as though Jennifer's popularity from her Oscar win isn't going to be a one time deal. She has a movie in the works with fellow Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, a friendship with one of fashion's Grande Bathches, Andre Leon Talley, and now this Avon ad campaign. Some have somewhat criticized the move, citing Avon's limited reach. But these ads are going to appear in at least six women's magazines this August, and will provide Jennifer with more exposure. I think it's an excellent move on her part; chick is definitely doing her thing.

Jennifer Hudson...The New Face of Avon

Jennifer Hudson has signed a deal with Avon to become the face of their Imari fragrance brand. As a part of the deal, which was announced on Tuesday, Hudson will be the spokeswoman for Imari, and a new fragrance, Imari Seduction, which is scheduled to be launched in August. The original Imari scent was launched twenty years ago and is Avon's number one women's fragrance. The new fragrance, Imari Seduction will appear in a national print advertising campaign in at least six women's magazines this August.

"We're looking to add a sexy, powerful edge to the brand," said Claudia Poccia, president of Avon U.S. Beauty and global president of Mark, Avon's youth-oriented brand. "We wanted a spokesperson who embodied a youthful spirit and confidence, and Jennifer speaks to a new generation of passionate women trying to achieve their dreams and goals." Hudson was contacted for the position shortly after Dreamgirls was released; company executives felt she embodied Avon's dedication to empowering women.

Of her new role, Jennifer had this to say:
"This is an honor for me and very flattering," Hudson said in a statement Tuesday. "With the success of ‘Dreamgirls' and now an Oscar, it's been an incredible few months. And now, to partner with Avon is really a dream come true for me. It's exciting to be representing the Imari brand, which really embodies confidence and femininity."

It's nice to see Jennifer doing her own thing. With the success of Dreamgirls, and her Oscar win, I'm sure she has a lot of things coming her way.

I Want That!...Jennifer Hudson

Newly minted Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson looked fabulous at a recent MAC luncheon in Beverly Hills held in her honor. Her white sundress paired with a light-weight coat, is a perfect look for spring, especially those days when the weather isn't quite cold nor is it exactly warm.

Runway v. Red Carpet...Oscars 2007

There were so many gowns to look at on the red carpet at this year's Academy Awards. I'm sure you were wondering where many of them came from, and were they really supposed to look that way. Well here are a few runway versus red carpet comparisons. You can be the judge on which looks better. To view even more pictures to compare, head over to Oh No They Didn't.

Despite what some people thought, Beyonce's dress was by Armani Prive', not her House of Dereon.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Zac Posen.

I will say it again, I loved Jennifer Hudson's Oscar de la Renta ensemble. Just don't shoot me!

Kirsten Dunst was easily the night's worst dressed in Chanel couture.

I couldn't really decide if I loved or hated Cameron's Valentino gown, but I think it looks better on her than on the runway.

Lights! Camera! Action! Hollywood!...Oscars 2007

Unless you live under a rock, or perhaps you have a real life ;) , then you know the 79th annual Academy Awards went down last night. And besides the event being the biggest night in movies, it's also one of the biggest nights in fashion. For an awards show that's usually a bore, the best part is seeing what everyone's wearing on the red carpet.

Oscars 2007 - Penelope CruzOscars 2007 - Nicole Kidman

In one of my favorite looks of the night, Best Actress nominee Penelope Cruz looks gorgeous in a strapless Versace gown. The train on this bad boy is to die for, and its pale blush color is perfect against Penelope's olive skin. Nicole Kidman made a bold choice with this red Balenciaga dress. The oversized bow is my favorite part of her look. It takes confidence to not only wear such a bold color, but to also wear a dress with such a bold accessory.

Oscars 2007 - Reese WitherspoonOscars 2007 - Gwyneth Paltrow

Last year's Best Actress winner Reese Witherspoon may be going through a divorce, but this awards season, she's proven that she's taking everything in stride with a series of A+ red carpet choices. Her latest, a purple strapless gown, is designed by Nina Ricci, who Reese has been wearing during this entire awards season. Gwyneth Paltrow walked the red carpet in Zac Posen. I love this dress, it's as daring as anything Posen has done, but the color doesn't work for Gwyneth. Her skin looks washed out against the hue of the dress. Perhaps a darker color, or something less close to skin tone, would have worked better.

Oscars 2007 - Helen MirrenOscars 2007 - Kirsten Dunst

Best Actress winner Helen Mirren proves that you're never too old to be sexy. She looks completely glam in this beaded gown by Christian LaCroix. She's definitely showing those young starlets how it's done, starlets like Kirsten Dunst. Kiki Dunst provides us with arguably the biggest flop of the night. This Chanel couture gown just hangs off Kirsten, and the color of the gown paired with her dark lipstick just do nothing for her. I've seen this dress on the runway, and it looked much better, I guess it just wasn't made for non-models.

Oscars 2007 - Cate BlanchettOscars 2007 - Cameron Diaz

Cate Blanchett has continually proven that she's a fashionista to be watched. She looks great in this gunmetal Armani Prive' dress. I don't think there are many others who could have worn this dress as well as she did. I don't really know what to say about Cameron Diaz's look. Initially I liked it, but the more I've seen it, the less I've liked. The collar of this Valentino gown reminds me of a huge 'peter pan' collar. It's distracting. I do love her lighter brown hair, though. And her recent Hawaiian vacations have worked wonders for her. Her skin looks great against her white gown and her lighter hair.

Oscars 2007 - Jennifer LopezOscars 2007 - Jennifer HudsonOscars 2007 - Beyonce Knowles

Lastly we have the divas of the night. I loved Jennifer Lopez' Marchesca gown, which featured a jeweled encrusted neckline. This gown wasn't a favorite of some, but I'm a sucker for an empire waist. Goddess gowns are so feminine, you can't help but feel like a princess. Best Supporting Actress winner Jennifer Hudson took a fashion risk with this Oscar de la Renta ensemble. Her look has been bashed all over the 'net, particularly her metallic shrug. But call me crazy, I actually liked this look. Yes, I even liked the shrug. Feel free to disagree, I love hearing other's opinions. Last but certainly not least, we have Miss Beyonce Knowles. There's nothing wrong with her Armani Prive gown (thought it was Dereon didn't you?), but there's was nothing special about it either. I'm a Beyonce fan, but I'm tired of seeing the same looks on her. It's time for a change with her. Maybe a darker hair color, or perhaps she should follow the current celebrity trend and cut her hair.

Covergirls...Jennifer Hudson in Life

I don't know who we're seeing more of these days, Jennifer Hudson or Beyonce Knowles. JHud is the latest covergirl for Life Magazine. I don't know what's been happening lately, but this is yet another unflattering cover shot for Ms. Hudson. She's a beautiful girl, so I need the photographers to do better, lol. Jennifer had a lot of interesting things to say in the interview accompanying the photos. She speaks about her boyfriend, gaining 20lbs to play Effie in Dreamgirls, and her personal music idols. You can check out excerpts from the article over at Celebrity Terrorist.

Covergirls...Jennifer Hudson in Vogue!

There had been rumors for a while that Jennifer Hudson was going to be the next covergirl for Vogue Magazine. Well, guess what? They're true, lol. Ms. Hudson graces the cover of the March issue of Vogue, the 'Power Isuue.' The photos were taken at the Apollo Theater in Harlem by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. I love Jennifer Hudson, but these photos aren't too flattering. Oh well, at least she got the cover, that's a difficult feat to pull off. In the photo spread, Jennifer wears gowns by Carolina Herrera and J. Mendel. She has yet to make a wrong fashion choice during this year's award season. I thought she just had impeccable fashion sense, but apparently she's being styled by none other than Vogue's Andre Leon Talley, the same person who wrote the article that accompanies the pictures. In the article she talks about her visits to Vera Wang and Oscar de la Renta fitting rooms. It's nice to see designers making clothes for regular girls.
